China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (SNP) began to export petrochemical products produced at its large ethylene complex in Zhenhai in eastern China, parent China Petrochemical Corp. said in its in-house newsletter Thursday.
The 1-million-metric-ton ethylene complex came online in April this year and is expected to help meet ethylene demand in Zhejiang province as well as neighboring domestic markets.
The first batch of exports--1,500 metric tons of butadiene--was shipped to South Korea earlier this week, the company said.
Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., the Sinopec's unit that operates the complex in Ningbo city, also owns a refinery with an annual crude processing capacity of 23 million tons, the largest in China. It will likely provide naphtha feedstock for the ethylene project.
